It’s with heartfelt gratitude that we say thank you to Northwestern Mutual for raising critical funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Together, Northwestern Mutual offices raised more than $515,000 through its Race for Research. These dollars will support 10,300 hours of childhood cancer research. Thank you Northwestern Mutual for joining us in the fight. You are making a difference!

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

Alex’s Lemonade Stand was founded by ‘Alex’ Scott who was diagnosed with a childhood cancer before her 1st birthday in 1996. After numerous treatments in 2000, Alex was determined to make a difference in the lives of others and at the young age of 4, held her first lemonade stand where she had decided that all of the money she earned that day would be donated to a local hospital to research childhood cancer. This became an annual event for the Scott family and news of this little girls remarkable story was spreading fast! In 2004, Alex passed, but not before raising over $1 million dollars to help find a cure for the disease that took her life. Her family continues this campaign as her legacy.

Northwestern Mutual  created the Childhood Cancer program in 2012 where it was introduced at our Annual Meeting. They have partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation among other foundations. Overall in 2 ½ year the Childhood Cancer Program has contributed $6.6 million towards Childhood Cancer Programs and 47,000 hours of research particularly benefitting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. If that isn’t a snapshot of the power of collective efforts I don’t know what is! In 2013 the Northern New England office contributed to those efforts by doing a lemonade stand in front of the Manchester, NH Network Office every week throughout the summer. The money raised during that time period was donated to the Starlight Foundation (Also a part of Childhood Cancer Programs) and they donated two  iPad’s to the Children’s Hospital in Dartmouth, NH (aka C.H.A.D.) where children battling cancer could utilize them during treatments.
